It seems the platform shoe is making yet another come back. For some reason every few years these wonderful shoes come back in style and everyone has to have them. I definitely had my fair share of them in the 70's (I was a child) the 80's (the wonderful teen years) and now.
The platforms were also popular in the 30's the 40's and the 50's. Platforms or Wedges are shoes, boots or sandals with a thick sole that goes from the front of the shoe to the heal of the shoe. There is not much more than a slight difference between the height at the toe of the shoe and the heal of the shoe.
Some platform shoes have a slight cutout section around the arch area. Others have fun designs or cutouts on the heal area. Speaking of which I just bought a cute pair of brown platform sandals that have a stitched flower and stone detail on the heel.
Walking in platform shoes is very similar to walking barefoot or walking in flats. Platforms are not difficult to walk in. Maybe thats why we love them so. They are fashionable, they help us shorties feel taller and they are easy to walk in.
