New shoes can make any woman feel posh and pretty, strong and sporty, or frilly and feminine. This spring, nearly anything goes, as long as it goes with a woman's attitude and attire.

This spring, shoe fashions come in a variety of shapes and materials, to fit every foot and tantalize any womans' taste:

Ballet flats and skimmers are especially trendy with cropped pants, gauchos, and capris. Flats are not just for tall girls anymore! Look for them in animal prints, bright stripes, pastel plaids, florals, and even polka dots.

Clogs still remain, with open- and closed-heels (Heel straps are considered pass.) Embroidery and etched designs make these more fun than ever.

High heels still draw lots of attention, as long as the toes are pointy. Check out all the new bright colors, which need not match outfits at all. Bright shoes can add pizzazz to a conservative pantsuit.

Mary Janes have been updated with sexy high heels and tapered toes. Some are two-toned for added interest.

Mules and slingbacks are super with trousers, casual pants, walking shorts and jeans. Look for shoes with perky bows, pleats, or dainty buckles.

Peep-toes and cut-outs have made a romantic comeback with ultra-feminine dresses.

Platforms of stacked wood, cork and even clear acrylic are back. Metallics, sequins, and appliqus are ubiquitous this spring. (The fishbowl platforms of the disco era have not returned, however!)

Sandals in sporty or dainty styles are everywhere for summer. Flip-flops in every color are still the rage for teens and preteens.

Stiletto heels are still stylish. Jewels, sequins, and other embellishments add interest to these and other styles.

Strappy heels show off tanned summer legs wonderfully.

Wedges are in, often with sexy lace-up ankle ribbons. Espadrilles are everywhere in all the colors of the rainbow, as well as printed fabrics.

Boots are OUT for the spring and summer! Pack em away till the first frost.

Fashionable shoes need not be costly. Certainly, it's easy to shell out $100 or more for first-class footwear, but up-to-date alternatives are always available at more modest prices. (Check online shoe vendors to compare prices for your favorite styles!)

Women Buy shoes that hurt because sometimes it's worth the hurt. I have heard girls say "I don't care what it takes to get my foot in those! They are adorable" and there fore, those cute little shoes calling to you from the rack are sold! Women tend to care less about the comfort when they are younger. They usually want shoes that people will compliment. People buy different uncomfortable shoes to make a statement whether it be a platformed, spiked shiny black heel, or a cute pair of red open toed flats with white polka dots that your foot clearly is not narrow enough to fit comfortably. Most are fishing for a compliment. Come on now, don't deny it, everyone likes to be complimented, that's why you buy that really cute dress, or the really good makeup, or that horrible body suit thing that sucks in all your extra trimmings so that whenever you wear it people tell you how great you look and ask you if you lost weight. All of this applies to shoes. Women enjoy being the envy of other women in everything. Another fact that few may admit but we all know is true. Jealousy stems from not being the envy and quietly standing by while someone else has it. The only thing better than a pair of cute, maybe not so comfy shoes is paying less for them than someone else did :)

Whereas history sometimes repeats itself, so does fashion. Women's shoe styles are no exception. We are finally moving from the fuzzy, over-sized boot phase into retro shoe styles, and this is long overdue.

Animal Prints

Leopard, zebra and cheetah prints are all the rage. Nothing says sexy' like a dead cat or horse on your feet I guess. I might knock it, but I do have to admit that I saw a pair of zebra heels at Target that I fell in love with. Some brands which are embracing this comeback include Steve Madden, Guess, Baby Phat, and Dolce and Gabbana.

Polka-dots

Polka-dotted shoes were huge back in the day. They scream "housewife". While some are hideous, there are quite a number I found online that are extremely cute. Just choose wisely! Pinupgirlclothing.com has a good selection of these.

Peep-toes

Peep-toes are shoes, usually high heels, which have a small opening for your toes to peek through. Mary Janes are cashing in on these big time. Some now have over-sized buckles and exposed stitching to accent the shoe. So show off that pedicure of yours with some peep-toes, ladies! They are too cute to pass up.

Pinup Slingbacks

These comeback kids are shoes, sometimes featuring the peep-toe, which have a strap going around the back of the foot. Many have bows and concealed platforms to boot. Elle, Easy Street, Franco Sarto, Style&Co., and many more shoe companies have these lined up on the assembly line, just waiting to be filled.

Mules

Mules are backless shoes which are an increasingly popular choice for men as well as women. They can be sporty, like mule sneakers, elegant, or they can land somewhere in between. Babygirl Inc., Fitzwell Meredith, and Dansko Merrie make a good number of these.

Stilettos

Stiletto heeled shoes are those which are very high and very thin. They are also a pain to walk in. For a big variety look for the Flashdance brand.

Pumps

Lastly we have the good old fashion pumps. Sparkles seem to be "in" with these. The glitzier, the better. Personally, I just don't get it. BabygirlInc. has these in stock.

If you are looking to help bring back these styles by purchasing a pair, just be sure to choose wisely. While some of these are adorable, they can also be a killer on your feet. There's nothing sexy about a pinup shoe with a bunion-covered foot in it.
